The Museum of the World Okean is the central martime museum of the Russian Federation. The main exhibit of the museum is the legendary scientifig-research vessel VITYAZ that, under the flag of USSR Academy of Sciences, made 65 expeditions in the World Okean (1949-1979) and was moored for good near the museum on Yuly 12 th, 1994.

    The Museum of the World okean works in twomain fields - okean's nature and history of oceanography since the first attempts of man to subdue the forces of sea until the present. Particular attention is given to the contribution of Russian researchers towards marine studies.
