The Museum collects and preserves interesting materials, documents and objects of historical value connected with the past of our ancient town. Its exhibitions are noted for their great quantity of original documents, the abundance and wide range of materail on display and its professiaonally laid-out interiors.

    The exhibition contains materails spanning all of Alatyr's history from its foundation up to the 1950s. Visitors can see a model of the town when it was a fortress, and original photographs of Alatyr's churches and monasteries at the beginning of the 20th century. They can find out more about the times when Stenka Razin and Pugachev's troops were in the town and admire the goods sold in the merchants' stores and shops of pre-revolutionary Alatyr.

    The Museum contains documents relating to famous citizens of the town such as P.A.Krylov, S.Erzya, A.I.Sudaev and others.
