Description:
    The Volgograd Museum of Fine Arts named after I.Mashkov is the only art museum in Volgograd (founded in 1960, opened to visitors on June 22, 1963).

    In its early stage, the museum collection consisted of artwork handed over to the museum on the instructions of the Russian Ministry of Culture - over 2000 pieces from the Hermitage, the Tretyakov Gallery, the State Museum of History and other national museums. Further acquisitions were accounted for by gifts, transfers from the archives of the Ministries of Culture of the Soviet Republic of Russia/the USSR, the Union of Artists and others. A comprehensive collection of contemporary art, including that by Volgograd artists, is being formed.

    In 1980, N.Arning-Zaitseva's private collection of Russian and West European paintings was contributed to the museum. Today, there are over 8500 pieces of art in the museum.

    On October 25, 2010, the Volgograd Museum of Fine Arts was named after Ilya Mashkov
