The Military Medical Museum was founded on November 12, 1942. It keeps collections of the first medical museums of the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union. Museum collections include more than 210 thousand exhibits: graphic art, pharmaceuticals, medical uniforms, personal belongings of outstanding Russian physicians, photographs, drawings, medical books and historical medical documents. The new exhibition, entitled "Medicine of Russia and St. Petersburg", was opened on December 10, 2001. It reflects the history of Russian medicine from ancient times. The Archives of Military Medical Documents include more than 60 million documents - case records and hospital admission registers issued in peace times and during wars. There are information on more than 500 thousand citizens of other countries and it's active in protection of human rights. It provides social and legal support to veterans, if they contact the "Consultation Room". In 2002, the museum received the award "For Protection of Human Rights". Since the first days of the existence, considerable attention has been paid to research.
