The 28th of May 1970 is the official date of the Museum's foundation. The Museum was located at 39 Krasnaya Street, but its funds were continually updated with new exhibits, and the rooms became overcrowded. Therefore, Museum was given two floors of the building at 68 Krasnaya Street by decision of the Executive Committee of the City Soviet of People's Deputies in 1987. This building has been entirely transferred to the Museum by the decision of the Head of the administration of Kropotkin since 1992. And nowadays, the Museum is located in a historical building of the early 20th century.

    The main idea of the Museum's exposition is a chain of successive cultural and historical situations-models: archaic (the Stone Age), Bronze Age (the Middle Ages), Modern times (setting up the Romanowsky Khutor), industrial (the change of the Khutor status into urban). Kuban was one of the centers of civilizational impacts - ancient, Mediterranean-European and Asian cultures, due to it, the dialogue between cultures was established. The Kuban region was the main surroundings of the local population from the Eneolithic till Modern times, the nations have been constantly changing each other, that's why this spirit of the migration energy, nations' movement, combines all the exhibition models
