The memorial was opened on March, 8th, 2002 on the 58 anniversary of deportation of the Balkarian people during political reprisals 1944-1957. The exposition of the memorial is historical ethnographic. It covers the pre-revolutionary and pre-war periods: the exposition, devoted to the Great Patriotic war (1941-1945); the exposition, devoted to the deportation of the Balkarian people (1944-1957); the exposition, devoted to the returning of the Balkarian people to their historical Motherland, their rehabilitation and the present-day life
