Description:
Vadim Sidur (1924-1986) is one of the greatest Soviet artists and sculptors, "the Soviet Henry Moore" as Western journalists used to call him back in the seventies. A nonconformist artist, he was oppressed by the Soviet authorities for his artworks were a striking antithesis, both in form and in essence, of the canons of socialist realism. In the thirty years of creative work he authored over five hundred sculptures and over several thousands of graphic pieces. Numerous exhibitions and publications made Vadim Sidur widely known in the West in his lifetime. One time or another, his works made their way to the collections of German Chancellor Helmut Schmidt, laureates of Nobel Prize for Literature Samuel Beckett and Pablo Neruda, Deutsche Bank Board Chairman Friedrich W. Christians, laureates of Nobel Prize for Physics Jan Oort and John Bardeen, composer Benjamin Britten, writers Milan Kundera and Heinrich Boll, industrialist Norton Dodge and many others. After the death of Vadim Sidur, which coincided in time with the beginning of Gorbachev's Perestroika, his work was publicly acknowledged as part of the national heritage.

The organization of the Moscow State Museum of Vadim Sidur and its opening in 1987 was the tribute to the talent of the outstanding artist.

This little information gives only a very general impression of the work of artist, philosopher and poet Vadim Sidur, one of the last classical artists of the XX Century coming to the end
