Earlier museum was initially intended to be a kunstkamer. The exhibition gathered interesting memorial things and materials of members Ural Society of lovers of Nature (USLN), which founded museum. According to the catalogue in 906 the museum comprised more than thousands exhibits, displayed in different sections. Parallel with the museum establishing the formation of its collections went on. Today SKSM – complex of specialized museums, including museums of regional studies, historical, ethnographic, technical, memorial united by one direction. Museum gathered and kept icon, church plates, sculpture, ceramic, memorials of life and trades, manufacture, geological, nature,culture and art. Museum has library (books of XVI-XX) two hundred thousands volumes.
