The Krasnodar State historical and archeological museum is one of the oldest museums in the South of Russia. It was founded in 1879 by E.D. Felicin, who headed the office of ataman of Kuban cossack troops. Kuban is a land of ancient civilisations with ancient culture. Krasnodar museum tell about Kuban's nature and history. The exhibits give an idea about the peculiarities of the West Caucasus climate and the most widely-destributed soil types of the territory. The dioramas and the exhibits tell about flora and fauna and resources of nature.
The exhibits of some rooms present rare archeological discoveries, indicative of the vital activities of man on the region's territory from the time of paleolithic; original ancient cultures of 1000-3000 B.C.; settled tribes of agriculturists and cattle-breeders; material and spiritual culture of the Bosporus; the emergence and fall of the Tmutarakan principality; the history of Adigia's population during the middle ages.
