The Museum was founded in 1992. Its mission is to encourage and develop the creative, aesthetic and spiritual interest of its visitors as well as to assist them with their understanding of visual art.
The Museum doesn't have any permanent exhibitions because its management considers rotating exhibits from various artistic and cultural projects to be more effective. Two of these projects were considered in Open society Institute contest and were awarded grants. For the development of the single-piece exhibition "Odin's Steel" museum was awarded the Firste prize of the Second International Museum Biennale (Krasnoyarsk, 1997).
The Museum's activity includes not only collecting, studying and displaying artifacts but also the restitution program of unique collections of medieval bronze artifacts, taken away from the region. The Museum coordinates activities on the conservation of ruined monuments of historical and cultural heritage and studies the culture of the region's indigenous people
