Museum was opened in 1986. It ocupies a two-storeyed private residence - former house Shamyl, architectonic monument of a boundary 19-20 centuries. It is located on territory Old - Tatar region, historical part of a Kazan.

    In museum memorial things G. Tukay, photos, documents, subjects of epoch, etnography, products poet, including collection of verses, leaving in 40's in Tokyo on the initiative tatar slide projector are submitted.

    The excursions on a museum and Old-Tatar region give representation not only about life and activity G. Tukay, but also tell about national customs, life and culture kazan tatar. Annually in April are carried out Turkay readings, devoted birth of the poet.
