The historical museum of local lore in Yar was opened in October 1998.

    The opening of the was connected with two important dates of the Yarski district of the Udmurt Republic: the 100th anniversary of railway and the 60th anniversary of Yar. There are more than 3000 exhibits in expositions and funds of museum. Visitors can see permanent collections dedicated to the railway's history in Yar which tell about family dynasties of railway men, organizations connected with the railway and about the history of the Yarskaya railway station. The ethnographical room of museum introduces to visitors different traditions, art and crafts, way of life of the north Udmurt and Besermenians, living in the Yarski district. Besides, there is the room for exposition dedicated to poets Flor Vasilyev and Mikhail Fedotov, who lived and worked here. The exhibition "Our Heroes names" shows heroic deeds of the Yarski district people during the civil and great patriotic war. The museum also organizes different tourist routs across the Yarski district
