The establishment of this museum was initiated by participants of the 2nd Scientific Conference "Life and Creative Work of Painting Academician F.G. Solntsev. Prospects for Study and Preservation of His Heritage" and approved by the IBIW RAS Administration. The museum has become a part of the Museum System of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

    The museum is housed in high-ceilinged spacious halls of the building in the very center of Borok. Its exposition includes unique articles of everyday life of peasants among which the painter spent his childhood. The exposition of a sitting room of the nobility shows the next period of his life in St. Petersburg. In the largest hall there is a designated exposition dedicated to Solntsev's creative work. His paintings, archival documents, photos, portraits of the family and friends are displayed here. In the top level there are pictures of the Tower Palace and the Great Kremlin Palace where Fedor Solntsev labored as a restorer and decorator.

    The exhibit hall provides an opportunity for craftsmen to display pieces of their creative work. A special accent is put on works of art
