The Museum was opened in Kaluga, the city where Konstantin Tsiolkovsky ("father of cosmonautics") worked and lived more than 40 years.
Museum was opend in October 3, 1967, and became the first Space History museum in the world. It consists of two main halls with exposition about the Origing and developing of idea of space flignts; Tsiolkovsky's creation works in cosmonautics; History of Rocketry & Space Exploration.
The Museum has also exhibition Hall, planetarium; memorial House-museum of Tsiolkovsky's Flat-museum in Borovsk town; three scientific departments. Museum annualy (since 1966) has organized in Kaluga scientific conference - "Tsiolkovsky's Readings", devoted to the different aspects of space exploration & research.
The Museum has an experience of designing and exposing exhibitions in Russia abroad. Many years it's coordinating the activity of similar museums in our country and has different cooperaions with foreign museums and organisations of space explo
