The items from the stocks of the Ostrogozhsk museum are connected with the specific features of it which was founded in 1907 as one of the first provincial Art museums in Russia. Paintings in all genres are represented in the gallery art collection, however, the portrait painting prevails.

    This coincidental circumstance is symbolical: the gallery was made up in memory of the outstanding portraitist I.N. Kramskoy. Visitors can admire the original works of the Russian artists of the 19th to early 20th centuries: I.N. Kramsky, Polenov, A.I. Korzukhin, I.Ya. Yaroshenko, I.E. Repin, I.K. Ayvazovsky, E.E. Volkov, A.I. Kuindgy, I.I. Shishkin etc. M.M. Melentyev's collection (antique furniture, bronze of the 16-18th centuries, porcelain, a miniature) causes an invariable interest with the visitors. Visitors are especially interested in the museum exposition "Numismatics, Notaphily, Heraldry of our land"
