Severodvinsk local history museum, one of the large museum in the Arkhangelsk region, was founded on March, 4, 1970. The museum holds leading position in cultural and informational spheres of Severodvinsk. It collects and studies the data about the city and the locality. The museum holds the recent historical exposition covering the period from the foundation in 1936 up till now and speaking about the labour enthusiasm of the first economic plans, about the city hardships during the Great Patriotic war (1941 - 1945), about the working days and at present. The expositions about the White Sea life (Severodvinsk city is located on the White Sea coast), the city ecological problems and northern taiga nature always attract visitor's attention. The museum also hold exposition and exhibitions about the local dwellers (so-called pomors) way of life, the Nikolo-Korelsky monastery, first mentioned in 1419, which served as the first Russia's northern sea port in the middle of XVI century, about the ancient pomor settlement Nenoksa, considered to be salt production place in the XVI-XVII centuries, about the secret Soviet history topics and the submarine shipbuilding.
